What are Cookies?

Cookies are small files or devices that are downloaded and stored on a terminal (i.e. the device from which the Platform is accessed: computer, mobile phone, tablet or any other connected device…) and allow the Platform or website to remember information about the visit.

In general, and as stated in the Guide to Cookies published by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), which can be consulted here, cookies can be of various types:

  • Depending on the organisation that manages the computer or domain from which cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, we can distinguish:
    • Own cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal or equipment from a computer or domain managed by the platform’s editor, in this case, TURITOP, from whom the user has requested services.
    • Third-party cookies: are those that are sent to the user’s terminal or equipment from a computer or domain that is not managed by the platform’s publisher, but by another organisation that processes the data obtained through cookies. If cookies are installed from a computer or domain managed by TURITOP, but, however, the information collected through them is managed by a third-party, they cannot be considered as TURITOP’s own cookies. In this regard, TURITOP may contract the services of analysis and measurement companies that measure and/or analyse the browsing behaviour of users on the platform and, in this respect, act on their behalf and representation, through the analysis of the data obtained with the use of these third-party cookies, all with the sole purpose of improving the service provided by TURITOP.
  • Depending on the purpose for which the data obtained through cookies is processed, we can distinguish between
    • Technical Cookies: These allow the user to navigate through the platform and use the different options or services that exist there, such as, controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted access information, remembering the elements that make up an application, applying for registration or participation in an event, using security elements during navigation, storing content for the dissemination of videos or sound or sharing content through social networks.
    • Personalization cookies: These are those that allow the user to access the service with some general characteristics predefined according to a series of criteria in the user’s terminal, such as, for example, the language, the type of browser through which the user accesses the service or the regional configuration from which the user accesses the service, amongst others.
    • Analysis Cookies: These allow the person responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of the users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected by means of this type of cookie is used to measure the activity on the platform and to draw up navigation profiles of the users of these sites, applications and platforms, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the usage data made by the users of the service.
    • Advertising Cookies: These are those that allow the management, in the most efficient way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included in a web page, application or platform from which the requested service is provided based on criteria such as the content edited or the frequency in which the ads are shown.
    • Behavioural advertising cookies: These are those that allow the management of the advertising spaces, in most efficient way possible, that, in their case, the editor has included in a web page, application or platform from which it provides the requested service. These cookies store information on the behaviour of users obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, allowing the development of a specific profile to then display advertising based on it.
  • Depending on the length of time they remain activated in the terminal equipment (short term nature) we can distinguish:
    • Session Cookies: Cookies designed to collect and store data while the user is accessing the platform. Session cookies allow a website to recognize the user.
    • Persistent cookies: Cookies in which the data is still stored on the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the person responsible for the cookie, which can range from a few minutes to several years
